LEXINGTON, Ky. â€" The Earlham College men's tennis team won its 42nd straight match against a Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference foe on Wednesday with a 7-2 win over Transylvania University.
Earlham, the defending HCAC champs, hasn't dropped a match against a conference opponent since a regular season loss in 2011.
On Wednesday, the Quakers led 2-1 after doubles against the Pioneers (0-4, 0-1).
Vitalii Stadnyk and Jack Ventura-Cruess won 8-1 in the top position over Robert Albrecht and Zachary Meikle.
At No. 2, Gleb Babikov and Vojislav Tatarevic posted a 8-2 victory over Josh Buckman and Stephen Mayborg.
In singles action, Stadnyk took care of Albrecht 6-3, 7-5 at No. 1. Babikov beat Dylan Conner 6-1, 6-3 at No. 2.
Ventura-Cruess was leading 5-0 in the first set when Buckman retired due to injury in the third spot.
Tatarevic defeated Meikle 6-3, 6-2 at No. 4, while Adam Schwartz outlasted Mayborg 7-6, 2-6, 1-0 (10-8) at No. 5.
The Quakers (4-7, 1-0) entertain Anderson University on Saturday in their home opener. The HCAC affair gets underway at noon.
