RICHMOND, Ind. â€" The Earlham College men's tennis team had its Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference winning streak snapped on Saturday as the Quakers fell 5-4 to Franklin College.
After three straight postponements, it was the home opener for the Quakers and marked the first time in 42 matches since 2011 that they dropped a match against a conference foe.
The Grizzlies (4-5, 2-1) were on top 2-1 after the doubles competition.
The Quakers picked up at win at the top spot as Vitalii Stadnyk and Jack Ventura-Cruess beat Ryan Hammer and Alex Hammer 9-8 (7-3).
In singles action, Stadnyk took care of Ryan Hammer 6-3, 6-3 at No. 1.
At No. 2, Gleb Babikov posted a 6-2, 6-3 win over Ethan Caldwell.
Ventura-Cruess beat Alex Hammer 6-0, 6-1 to win in the third position.
Earlham (4-8, 1-1) visits Mount St. Joseph University on Wednesday at 4 p.m.
