BLUFFTON, Ohio — Bryce Rainey led the Earlham College baseball team to a 2-0 victory over Bluffton University on Tuesday.

Rainey (6-0) gave up three hits in eight innings of work on the mound against the Beavers (20-17, 13-11) in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference affair.

The Quakers are now 25-10 overall as they passed the 1971 team for the second most wins in a season in school history. The 1970 squad is at the top of the list with 26 victories.

At 14-9 in the HCAC, Earlham is in fourth place with three games remaining in the regular season. The Quakers are in the final spot to qualify for the post-season tournament.

Rainey's sixth victory of the spring ties him with several players for the second most wins in a season in school history. The most recent to reach the six-win plateau was Zach Lee, who did it in 2014. The Earlham record of seven wins was set in Ron Williams and Gerry Badvinac in 1970.

Rainey surrendered his first hit in the third and another in the eighth. In the ninth, he gave up a hit and then was relieved by Garrett York. York picked up his third save of the season as he retired all three batters he faced.

The Quakers managed to get five hits, but that was enough. In the third inning, Ethan Bailey gave the Quakers a 1-0 with a run-scoring single. Brennan Laird knocked in the other Earlham run in the fifth with a triple.

Thomas Rea led the Quakers with a pair of hits, while Josh Parr added a double.

Earlham finishes the regular season with a three-game conference series against Hanover College in Randal R. Sadler Stadium. The opener is Friday at 4 p.m.

Saturday, the Quakers celebrate Senior Day prior to the start of a doubleheader at noon.
