Box Score NO. MANCHESTER, Ind. — The Earlham College baseball team dropped a 7-0 decision on Friday as the Quakers opened a Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference series at Manchester University.
The highlight of the day was Earlham starting pitcher Matt Brankle became the all-time leader in career strikeouts with 211 as he passed former teammate Adam Painter (2008-11), who has 207.
The Spartans (13-6, 6-3) picked up a run in the second inning and then they added four in the third. Manchester scored its final two runs in the fourth.
Brankle (2-3) went the distance for the Quakers as he gave up 11 hits with four strikeouts.
Josh Parr led the Quakers with two hits, including a double. Thomas Rea, Brandon Smalling, Cody Krumlauf and Ethan Bailey each had a hit.
Earlham (15-5, 5-4) and Manchester finish the three-game series on Saturday with a doubleheader that is scheduled to underway at noon.
