INDIANAPOLIS â€" The Earlham College men's tennis team opened the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Tournament on
Friday with a 5-1 win over Manchester University at the West Indy Racquet Club.
It was the fifth straight win for the Quakers, who are now 10-9 heading into the semifinals on
Saturday against Franklin College (9-5) at 1 p.m. The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology (11-5) faces Transylvania University (5-7) in the other semifinal.
The championship match is
Sunday at 10 a.m.
On
Friday, the Quakers led 2-1 after the doubles competition against the Spartans (4-10).
Vitalii Stadnyk and Jack Ventura-Cruess defeated Kyle Lahman and Garrett Bear 8-3 in the top spot.
Gleb Babikov and Vojislav Tatarevic won 8-2 over Stratton Smith and Spencer Thomas at No. 2.
The Quakers needed to win three singles matches to advance.
Stadnyk beat Lahman 6-0, 6-1 at No. 1
In the second position, Babikov took care of Smith 6-2, 6-1.
At No. 3, Ventura-Cruess blanked Phil Truitt 6-0, 6-0.
