Baseball Defeats Albright for Sixth Straight Win

Box Score

FORT PIERCE, Fla. – A single run in four consecutive innings was enough for the Earlham College baseball team to defeat Albright College (Pa.) 6-3 in game two of its spring trip on Wednesday morning.

The Quakers score a run in the second, third, fourth, and fifth innings while the Lions added a single run in both the second and third innings. Senior Ethan Bailey singled home junior Matt Barger to open the scoring for Earlham in the second. Freshman Addison Robertson led off the third with a triple to left center field, and scored on an RBI-groundout from junior Brennan Laird on the next at bat.

In the fourth, junior Eric Elkus doubled home Joe Pipher to give the Quakers a 3-2 advantage. Sophomore Drew Dietz doubled the lead to 4-2 in the fifth with a sacrifice fly to center field, scoring junior Nate Lynch.

Albright would get within a single run in the eighth, but a double play induced by junior Dalton Carter and executed by Laird and Elkus ended the threat.

Earlham extended its lead in the bottom of the eight as Dietz scored as part of a double steal. Bailey then delivered his second RBI-hit, a double to left field to give the Quakers a 6-3 advantage.

Freshman Walter Talcott earned his second collegiate win, allowing two runs (one earned) and sprinkling five hits over seven innings and striking out three. Carter earned a hold while sophomore Matt Mathies earned a one-out save in his first appearance of the season.

In total, Earlham finished with seven hits. Bailey led the Quaker offense going 2-4 with two RBIs. Five other Quakers recorded one hit.

Bryan Brubaker led Albright in defeat going 2-3 on the day with a walk.

Earlham improves to 9-1 on the season and concludes its spring trip tomorrow (Thursday) against Kenyon College (Ohio). First pitch is scheduled for 10 a.m.
