Box Score GRANVILLE, Ohio – The Earlham College field hockey team held Denison University scoreless for a half, but two second-half goals gave the Big Red a 2-0 victory over the Quakers in North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) action on Wednesday evening.
Denison outshot Earlham by 15 shots in the first half, but could not crack the Quakers' defense in the first 35 minutes. Leading scorer Charlotte Happel broke the deadlock early in the second half, however, taking a pass from Charlotte Godfrey and beating Earlham goalkeeper, sophomore Camille van der Vaart, in the 44th minute.
Trailing 1-0, van der Vaart would only be beaten one more time as Emily Marlatt scored in the closing seconds for Denison.
The Big Red outshot Earlham 27-0 in the contest including holding a 17-0 edge in penalty corners. van der Vaart made 12 saves in the game.
Earlham (6-9, 5-8 NCAC) concludes its 2017 season by hosting DePauw University on Saturday. The game is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m.
