NORTH MANCHESTER, Indiana – The Earlham College men's tennis team opened Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) play with a 9-0 sweep of Manchester University on Saturday afternoon.
Juniors Vitalii Stadnyk and Vojislav Tatarevic improved to 6-4 on the year at first doubles with an 8-1 win over Isaac Collis and Stratton Smith. Sophomore Nicola Manni and freshman Aleksandr Sergeev won in a clean sweep at third doubles, defeating Kyler Lover and Dalton Bailey 8-0. The Quakers concluded the doubles sweep with an 8-5 win from sophomore Adarsh Singh and freshman Fernando Bulnes Aramburu at second doubles.
Sergeev, Tatarevic, and freshman Joaquin Lerner won their fourth, fifth, and sixth singles match respectively surrendering just a single game. Stadnyk and Bulnes Aramburu lost just four games at first and third singles respectively while Singh defeated Collis 6-2, 6-3 at second singles.
The Quakers improve to 9-5 overall and 1-0 in the HCAC. Earlham continues conference play against Hanover College at 4 p.m. on Monday.
