Field hockey stopped by #15 Centre

RICHMOND, Ind. – Visiting Centre College scored once in the first quarter and again in the third, and the 15th-ranked Colonels escaped Darrell Beane Stadium on Saturday with a 2-0 win over the Earlham College field hockey team.

Megan Coomes put Centre on the scoreboard at the 12:19 mark of the opening frame, when she found a loose ball in front of the cage and beat Earlham goalie Meg Murphy for the unassisted score.

Coming out of the halftime break with its 1-0 lead intact, Centre extended its advantage to 2-09 with Sarah Biggs penalty corner goal with 13:12 showing on the third quarter clock.

Centre outshot Earlham, 20-5, with Murphy charting six saves in the Earlham cage. Centre's Sienna Joseph registered three saves for the Colonels.

Earlham field hockey returns to action on Sunday, Oct. 6, when it travels to Lexington, Ky., to face Transylvania University. Game time is slated for 12:00 p.m.
