Box Score

RICHMOND, Ind. – A three-goal uprising from Earlham College field hockey led the Quakers to a 4-1 victory over visiting Oberlin College, Saturday afternoon at Darrell Beane Stadium.

The Quakers (5-4) scored all the offense they would need to clinch the win in the first quarter.

Guin Schalck scored on an unassisted strike at the 10:06 mark of the opening quarter, and she notched her second of night with 7:10 showing on the first quarter clock off a pass from Sofia Salvatore.

Salvatore extended Earlham's lead to 3-0 with 1:56 remaining in the opening frame on an unassisted tally, and the Quakers held their three-goal advantage into the halftime break.

Oberlin ended Earlham's shutout bid with an unassisted goal from Libby Royer with 6:11 to play in the third quarter. The Quakers got that goal back in the fourth quarter when Denise Bergdolt scored with 6:11 showing on the game clock.

Earlham outshot Oberlin, 19-4, with Quakers goalie Meg Murphy charting two saves. Mary Post logged nine saves in the Oberlin cage. The Quakers had a 9-2 advantage in penalty corners.

Earlham returns to action on Saturday, Oct. 5, when it hosts Centre College in a non-conference match. Game time is 11:00 a.m.
