Huelskamp wins long jump, paces women's track at HCAC meet

TERRE HAUTE, Indiana – First-year Madison Huelskamp won the long jump competition and finished fourth in triple jump on her way to earning women's Freshman of the Year honors while leading Earlham College women's track & field to a sixth-place finish at the 2020 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships, held Saturday at the Rose-Hulman Sports & Recreation Center.

The Quakers finished with 48 points, edging seventh-place Anderson University by three points and placing 12 points behind fifth-placed Mount St. Joseph with 60 points.

ON THE TRACK

Junior Jasmine Lorenzana ran to a fourth-place finish in the 800m run, crossing the finish line in 2:29.62.

Juniors Hailey Beel and Leilah Hicks gave Earlham a 4-5 finish in the 200m dash, earning a combined nine points for the Quakers. Beel clocked a time of 27.40 seconds, while Hicks finished in 28.05 seconds.

Sophomore Natalie McIntyre placed fifth in the 60m dash with a time of 8.43 seconds in the finals, after clocking a time of 8.37 in her preliminary heat.

In the relay events, the Earlham team of Elena Stirn, Esther Mano, Lorenzana, and Shianna Bellingham finished fourth in the distance medley relay with a time of 13:58.19. The Quakers were sixth in both the 4x200m (1:56.00) and the 4x400m (4:28.35) relays; Jennifer Douyere, McIntyre, Gabriela Quiroz, and Beel formed the Earlham quartet in the 4x200m, while Beel, Douyere, McIntyre, and Lorenzana formed the Quakers' team in the 4x400m.

IN THE FIELD EVENTS

Huelskamp won the long jump with a mark of 16-8 1/2 (5.09m) and posted a 31-5 3/4 (9.59m) in the triple jump to pick up a combined 15 points for the Quakers. Senior Esther Mano was right behind Huelskamp in the triple jump with a fifth-place mark of 31-3 (9.52m).

UP NEXT: Earlham women's track and field will begin its outdoor season on Saturday, March 21, when the Quakers head to California to compete in the Point Loma Nazarene Invitational.
