ANDERSON, Indiana – Earlham College men's lacrosse jumped out to an early 2-0 lead but it was all Anderson University the rest of the way as the Quakers were upended 16-2 in a non-conference matchup on Wednesday night at Macholtz Stadium.
Logan Reihing put Earlham on the scoreboard just 47 seconds into the game with a shot that beat Anderson goalie Eric Fisher, putting the Quakers in front, 1-0.
Jason Slain pushed the Quaker lead to 2-0 with nearly two minutes later, solving Fisher off an assist from
Elijah Gamber.
Cole Whatley scored back-to-back goals to knot the score at 2-2 before the seven-minute mark of the opening frame, and Josh Rhodes and Michael Ertel each added markers to give the Ravens a 4-2 advantage after 15 minutes.
Anderson extended its lead to 10-2 by the halftime intermission with six second-quarter goals, including two more from Whatley, one more by Rhodes, and two from Johnathan Havener. Havener completed his hat trick in the third quarter while Whatley and Rhodes each notched single goals to give Anderson a 14-2 lead after three quarters of play.
Anderson outshot Earlham, 51-18, with Quaker goalie
Steven Shaughnessy charting 19 saves on the night. The Ravens also had a 41-21 advantage in ground balls.
Earlham men's returns to action on Saturday, April 10, when the Quakers host Mount St. Joseph University at 1:00 p.m. at Darrell Beane Stadium.
