CINCINNATI, Ohio – The Earlham College track and field teams began their 2022 outdoor season at the MSJ Duals hosted by Mount St. Joseph University on Saturday.
The men's squad finished in third place with 45 points while the women's team scored 17 points to finish in fourth place.
The Quakers will be back in action next weekend at the Hanover Invitational hosted by Hanover University.
Here are some of the top performances of the day for the Quake:
Men's Javelin: John Maheney recorded the win for Earlham in the javelin after he posted a mark of 50.53 meters on his first attempt.
Men's 100 meter dash:
Sheldan Lindsay won the sprint with a time of 11.86, he was joined by
Velenkhosini Mkhonta who came in fourth place for Earlham with a mark of 12.21.
Men's 200 meter dash: Lindsay also scored a podium in the 200 meter dash with a second-place finish in 24.06 seconds.
Women's discus throw:
Makaylah Castelow scored a second-place finish after recording a throw of 34.54 meters on her final throw of the day.
Bailey Owens also scored points with a fifth-place showing.
Men's 5000 meter run:
Alex Roberts scored points in a distance event for Ealrham with a third-place finish in the 5k event. Roberts ran a time of 16:38.19 in the event.
Women's shot put: Castelow earned another second-place finish in the shot put after a 9.40 meter throw on her sixth attempt in the pit. Owens also scored points after coming home in fourth place.
Men's high jump:
Blessed Shumba led a Quaker regiment in the high jump with a leap of 1.7 meters to finish in third place. Shumba was followed by
David Turner and
Josh Ozanne in fourth and fifth place respectively.
Men's long jump: Shumba also led the Quakers in the long jump with a fourth-place showing. Shumba reached a distance of 5.66 meters on his leap. Turner followed in fifth place with a mark of 5.61 meters.
Men's triple jump: Ozanne led a Quaker sweep of the triple jump with a win after recording a jump of 11.32 meters. Turner scored a second-place finish with his mark of 11.24 meters.
Men's shot put:
Conner Hubbard scored points for the Quake with his 11.90 meter throw putting him in fourth place.
Men's discus: Hubbard also recorded a fourth-place finish in the discus with a mark of 37.24 meters on his second attempt.
Men's hammer throw: Mahaney earned a sixth-place finish in the hammer after recording a heave of 34.34 meters on throw number five.
Women's long jump:
Carley Edwards recorded a jump of 4.06 meters to score a third-place finish
Women's hammer throw:
Willa Summers led the Quakers in the women's hammer with a throw of 32.99 on her first attempt of the day to finish in fourth place. Owens followed in fifth place with a heave of 30.51 meters.
