RICHMOND, Ind. – After careful consideration, the Earlham College athletic department has made the difficult decision to cancel the 2023 women's lacrosse season. The decision was made to protect the health and safety of student-athletes due to low roster numbers.
"The health and safety of our student athletes is at the forefront of every decision we make. After broad consultation with the athletic training staff, coaches, and medical personnel, we have decided that this season cannot be conducted in a safe manner for our students," said Director of Athletics, Adam Hutchinson.
The team and coaching staff will continue working to recruit an incoming freshman class, and will look to return to action for the 2024 season.
Women's lacrosse began competition in the Heartland Collegiate Lacrosse Conference in 2018. The team has earned a spot in the HCLC's post-season conference two times.
