ANDERSON, Ind. – The Earlham College baseball team split a doubleheader at Anderson University on Sunday afternoon.
GAME ONE: EARLHAM 0 ANDERSON 5
Freshman
Hayden Scalf started in game one, and pitched six innings with seven hits and five runs. Scarf earned four strikeouts in the loss.
Jacob Renner threw the final two innings with two hits and two strikeouts.
The Quakers struggled at the plate, with just four hits, and one double by
Ian Bullis.
Anderson scored all five of its runs in the bottom of the fifth inning.
GAME TWO: EARLHAM 9 ANDERSON 8
Justin Dillhoff got the win in game two with six innings tossed. The junior allowed five runs on six hits, and scored two strikeouts.
Jacob Renner earned his second save of the season with seven batters faced in 1.2 innings pitched
The offense returned to form in game two with 15 total hits, led by
Michael Medley with three knocks, including a double, and two RBI.
Max Fries had two hits with a solo home run in the third inning.
The Quakers took the lead off of Fries' homer in the third inning, but the Ravens countered by plating three runs across the fourth and fifth innings.
The Quakers then added runs on four RBI-hits in the top of the sixth inning with three doubles, and earned another score from a walk in the seventh. The Ravens reached home with a wild pitch and a sac fly in the bottom of the inning.
In the top of the eighth inning,
Christian Lancianese hit an RBI-double to left field to get things started. Then, Medley put a ball in play that resulted in two runs scoring after an error by the Raven's second baseman.
Anderson rallied in the bottom of the eighth with three runs, but was stopped by Renner on the mound.
The Quakers will be back on the diamond on Friday evening at Bluffton University. First pitch is slated for 4:00 pm.
