RICHMOND – The Earlham College field hockey team is set to begin its 2023 season with a busy weekend of games in Darrell Beane Stadium. The Quakers host Concordia University, Oberlin College, and Marian University on opening weekend.
THE SCHEDULE
Competition begins with an 11 am matchup with Concordia Wisconsin on Saturday, September 2. EC also welcomes Marian University on opening weekend with an 11 am matchup on Sunday. September 9-10 will send the Quakers to Wilson College for a tournament in Chambersburg, Pa. The North Coast Athletic Conference schedule begins shortly after, with a road trip to DePauw on September 12. After the Tigers, EC hosts Oberlin College for senior day on September 23 at 12 pm. The Quakers host Wooster and Wittenberg the following week in NCAC action. Earlham continues its conference slate with road matches at Allegheny and Washington and Jefferson on October 7th and 8th respectively. The Quakers host Marian University again on October 15 for the Pink Game in Darrell Beane Stadium. The season concludes with a road matchup and Centre College on October 28 at noon.
THE PLAYERS
A youthful injection will lead the Quakers this season, with 11 first-year Quakers on the roster for 2023.
Rachel Alma started all 18 games in the cage for Earlham last season, and collected 114 saves with a 2.83 goals against average. The senior posted one shutout last year.
Meredith McGraw leads all returning players with 1,110 minutes played in 2022. The junior delivered 23 shots, and scored one goal last season. McGraw was also credited with a defensive save
THE COACHES
Head Coach
Nicole Chalfant (Volgraf) returns for her third season leading the Quakers. Chalfant is joined once again by
Arantxa Rosainz Caloca as assistant coach, and
Karina Steitz joins the coaching staff after leading the Quaker defense from the field.
PRESEASON POLL
The Quakers were picked to finish in ninth place in the North Coast Athletic Conference preseason poll by earning 23 votes. Earlham tied with new affiliate member Transylvania University for ninth place in the poll. Ohio Wesleyan was picked first with 115 votes, and eight first-place nods.
