Women's basketball season preview

RICHMOND, Ind. – The Earlham College women's basketball returns 13 members of last year's roster for the 2024-25 season, which begins on Saturday at Kenyon College. 

THE SCHEDULE

Beginning on Saturday, the Quakers travel for a pair of road games, first at Kenyon, then taking on Wilmington College in the Quaker Bowl. Earlham hosts Kuyper for its home-opener on November 16, and Heidelberg on November 20. The second year of the Melissa Johnson/HOPE Classic takes place from November 22-24, with Earlham hosting Aurora University and University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point in Druley Performance Gym. HCAC action begins on December 4 with Transylvania University at home at 7 pm. Earlham then plays every Wednesday and Saturday until the holiday break begins on December 18. The Quakers have just one game on tap for late December at Wooster on the 30th. The conference slate ramps back up with a home game against Franklin College on January 4. The season finale is against Rose-Hulman on February 19th in Druley Performance Gym. 

THE PLAYERS

Jay Bright, Abby Parsons and Willow Runyon were listed as Athletes to Watch by the HCAC prior to the season. Bright was named an all-conference honorable mention last year after leading the Quakers in offense with 11.5 points per game. She also led EC in minutes (710), assists (64) and steals (41) and had 81 rebounds on the season. Parsons earned a nod on the HCAC Newcomer Team last season with action in all 23 games, and 15 starts. She had a 45.8% field goal percentage, shot 36.5% from 3-point range, and 92.3% from the free throw line, all were team-highs. Parsons also brought down 90 rebounds and eight blocks. In her third season with the Quakers last year, Runyon was third in scoring with 7.6 points per game, and 4.5 rebounds per game. The junior averaged a team-high 31.2 minutes per game, and totalled 104 rebounds with 45 assists.

PRESEASON POLL

The Quakers garnered 15 votes in the HCAC Preseason Poll, landing in ninth place. Bluffton University placed just ahead with 26 votes, and Anderson University is within reach at 31 votes in seventh place. Transylvania was selected to win the conference with 72 votes. 

COACHES

Joe Adams '14 continues for his second season leading the Quakers. Under Adams, Earlham posted its best winning percentage since the 2019-20 season. Nicole Sims also returns as a second-year assistant coach.
