RICHMOND – The Earlham College men's lacrosse team will begin its second season under the leadership of Head Coach
Taylor Lanzillo at Wabash College on Wednesday evening.
THE SCHEDULE
The Quakers open up with a three-game road trip with Wabash, Concordia Chicago, and Wilmington making up the first two weeks of competition. Earlham will then host Heidelberg University, followed by the Spring Break trip to Wisconsin for games against Northland and Beloit. After returning to campus, Earlham travels to Mount Union on March 16. The Quakers will host Centenary College on March 20, and travel to La Roche on March 23. The Heartland Collegiate Lacrosse Conference schedule begins on April 3 against Hanover College in Darrell Beane Stadium at 7 pm. Earlham then hosts Cornel College for the final non-conference game of the year on April 6. In the stretch, EC will host Mount St. Joseph and Transylvania University, before traveling to Anderson and Spalding to end the season.
THE PLAYERS
This year, the Quakers had four players selected as Athletes to Watch by the HCLC coaches.
Ben Adkins,
Donovan Shea,
Ryan Polack, and
Braden Greeno.
Adkins started 10 games last year with nine goals and four assists. The midfielder also caused 12 turnovers and picked up 40 ground balls.
Shea led the squad in ground balls(96) and caused turnovers(47) last season as a midfielder. Shea scored one goal and dished out one assist with 13 shots. He also got reps at faceoff, where he won 51 possessions for the Quakers.
Polack scored 12 goals and recorded four assists as a freshman last season. Appearing in all 12 games, Polack placed 54% of his shots on cage, and collected 34 ground balls.
Greeno comes to the Quakers from Billings, Montana, and is expected to serve as the primary goalkeeper for the season. At 6'0" 220lbs, Greeno has the size to cover the cage and stop shots.
THE COACHES
In Lanzillo's first season last year, the Quakers had their best record since 2019, and took a sixth-place finish in the HCLC. This season, Lanzillo is also joined by assistant coach Colin Tolsma. Tolsma comes to the Quakers from Hendrix College. He will bring a new look to the Quaker offense for the season.
HCAC OUTLOOK
The Quakers were picked to finish fourth in the HCLC Preseason Poll by conference head coaches. Earlham earned 12 votes, and was only five votes behind Anderson in third place. Transylvania was picked to win the bracket with 25 votes, and five first-place nods.
