TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – The Earlham College track and field team took on the HCAC's best at the 2024 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Championship Meet hosted by Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology on Saturday.
Abigail Kirby earned all-conference honors in the long jump with a second-place finish. The freshman recorded a leap of 4.82 meters on her first jump for a new personal best. Kirby also scored fourth place for the Quakers in the high jump by clearing 1.56 meters, also a new personal best.
Ethan Rose scored a third-place finish in the men's 800 meter run with a new school record time of 1:58.04. The sophomore cleared the previous record, set by Matt Lindeman in 2005, by just under three tenths. Rose cleared fifth place by just half a second in the tightly-contested race.
The women's relay teams of
Chloe Cook,
Akiko Tajima,
Katelyn Trotto and Kirby scored points in two events on the day. The squad hit a personal best (4:31.31) in the 4x400 meter relay to score fifth place. The team scored sixth place in the 4x200 meter relay with a time of 1:59.02.
The Quakers will begin their outdoor schedule on March 16 at the Alan Connie Shamrock Invitational in Myrtle Beach, S.C.
