RICHMOND, Ind. – The Earlham College volleyball team scored as 25-21 third set victory, but Rose-Hulman winning the first two sets proved to be enough as the Quakers fell to the Fightin' Engineers 3-1 (25-18, 25-20, 21-25, 25-22) in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) action on Sunday.

Earlham took a 14-10 lead in the first set, but Rose-Hulman went on a 13-3 run and took the first set victory.

The second set was the most offensive as the Engineers hit a .346 clip while the Quakers tallied a .242 attack percentage. Earlham put down 15 kills while Rose-Hulman had 12, but the Engineers had only three attack errors while the Quakers had seven.

Down 2-0, Earlham got out to a 21-12 behind six kills from freshman Ashleigh Burton and 10 attack errors from Rose-Hulman. After a timeout, the Engineers rattled off seven straight points to cut the lead to two points, but could get no closer as the Quakers took set three.

Both teams went back and forth in set four until the score was tied 20-20. The Rose-Hulman block came alive, recording two of its six match blocks in succession to take a 22-20 lead. An attack error cut Earlham's deficit to a single point, but the Engineers won the next two points to take a 24-21 lead. A Burton kill saved one match point, but an error gave Rose-Hulman the victory.

Burton finished with 14 kills, two service aces and one block. Sophomore Kayla Morris added 13 kills, two service aces on 20 digs. Freshman Megan Hedinger tallies eight kills, 19 assists, and six digs. Fellow freshman Jessica Dammeyer, who played libero in the match, tallies a career-high 30 digs.

Rose-Hulman was led by Emily McLendon who had 10 kills and a .305 attack percentage. Libero Gabi Razma matched Dammeyer with 30 digs.
