Box Score 2 JACKSONVILLE, Ill. - The Earlham College volleyball team split a pair of matches on the first day of the Illinois College Tournament on Friday. The Quakers fell to Concordia Chicago 3-0 (25-19, 26-24, 25-19), but bounced back to defeated Monmouth College 3-1 (25-20, 26-24, 19-25, 25-19).
In the loss to Concordia Chicago, sophomore Kayla Morris and freshman Ashleigh Burton each finished with 11 kills. Freshman Megan Hedinger turned in a 19-dig performance while Morris also chipped in double digits in digs with 10. Freshman setter Abigail Sheehan dished out 17 assists in the loss.
Austin Thompson led Concordia Chicago with 15 kills. The Cougars served up 14 aces as a team.
As a team, the Quakers hit a .183 clip compared to a .256 attack percentage for the Cougars.
In the victory over monmouth, Burton and Morris again provided the Earlham offense.The two combined for 32 kills (18 and 14 respectively) in the four set match. Sheehan dished out a career high 46 assists for an average of 11.5 assist per set. Freshman Jessica Dammeyer added a career-high 23 digs while Hedinger and Morris chipped in 17 and 15 digs respectively. Freshman Naomi Onglanco finished with two solo blocks and three block assists.
As a team, Earlham hit a .209 attack percentage and served 11 aces compared to nine errors as a team.
The Quakers (2-11) have a quick turnaround as Earlham faces Olivet for a second time at noon (CST) and finish the tournament with a 2 p.m. (CST) match vs. Robert Morris Springfield.
