Box Score HANOVER, Ind. – The Earlham College men's soccer team fell to Hanover College 2-0 in a shortened Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) contest on Wednesday afternoon.
With the Panthers leading 2-0 midway through the second half, lightning struck the Hanover campus. After a second delay, the game was called with 15:09 remaining (70 minutes played is needed for the game to be considered official).
Both teams took five shots in the first half, but it was Hanover who found the back of the net as Matthew Eldridge scored his ninth of the season in the 27th minute. Leading 1-0 at halftime, the defending HCAC co-champions peppered Earlham goalkeeper, sophomore Nicola Manni, with eight shots in the second half. Thomas Doering broke through at the 54:32 mark to double the Panthers' lead.
Earlham took six shots in the game including two from junior Nicholas Dey. Hanover had 13 total shots along with six corner kicks.
The Quakers, who have now lost five straight games, dip to 5-9 overall and 1-5 in HCAC competition. Earlham will travel to Franklin College looking to snap that streak on Saturday. Kickoff from Faught Stadium is scheduled for 8 p.m.
