Patton paces men's track at DePauw Indoor Invitational

MEN'S FINISH: 8th out of 17 teams (44 pts.)

THE SHORT STORY: Earlham College sophomore Jake Patton was the top individual performer for the Quakers at Saturday's DePauw Indoor Invitational, held at the Hollensteiner Track in Greencastle, Indiana.

Individually, Patton accounted for 12 points for Earlham men's track & field, helping lead the Quakers to an eighth-place finish out of the 17 teams competing in the meet with 44 points. 

Saturday's meet was the final tune-up for the Quakers before this Saturday's Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships, which will be hosted by Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology.

ON THE TRACK

  • Sheldan Lindsey was sixth in the 60m dash with a PR time of 7.28, earning three points.
  • In the 600m run, Ian Shriner logged a time of 1:25.05 to finish first overall, picking up 10 points for the Quakers.
  • Jake Patton crossed the finish line in third place in the 60m hurdles with a PR time of 8.64, earning six points for the Earlham men. In the field events, Patton also recorded a third-place showing in the long jump with a personal best mark of 19-11 (6.07m), garnering another six points for the Quakers.
  • The Earlham quartet in the 4x400m relay of Michael Grady, Drew FitzGibbon, Daryn Strub, and Ian Shriner finished first overall with a time of 3:33.63 for the maximum 10 points in the scoring, while in the 4x200m relay Earlham was sixth with a time of 1:38.03 for four points. Lindsey, JP Dongo, Patton, and FitzGibbon were the Earlham four in the 4x200m event.

IN THE FIELD EVENTS

  • First-year Blessed Shumba placed fourth in the high jump with a mark of 6-1 1/4 (1.86m), picking up five points.

UP NEXT: Earlham men's track and field competes in the HCAC Indoor Track & Field Championships on Saturday, Feb. 22, in Terre Haute, Indiana. Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology will host the conference championship meet.
