Men's Cross Country

Quakers battle regional opponents

SHELBYVILLE -- The Earlham College cross country team competed in the Great Lakes Regional meet on Saturday afternoon in an attempt to qualify for the NCAA Championship meet.

The men's squad finished in 22nd place while the women ended up in 34th. 

Connor Del Carmen recorded a strong finish in 94th place on the men's side. Del Carmen's time of 26:44.3 was eight seconds faster than fellow Quaker Austin Burt who finished the 8k race in 101st place. Another five seconds back was Ian Gorely in 104th place for the Quakers. 

Gretta Shaffer led the women's squad in 129th place after running a time of 24:54.5 in the 6k race. Fellow junior Shianna Bellingham tallied a 166th place finish with a finishing time of 25:44.0. 

The Quakers now turn their attention to track season where the team will compete in an indoor slate over the winter. In the preseason HCAC polls, the Quakers were selected fifth on the men's side and the women's squad was tabbed for fourth place.
