NORTH MANCHESTER, Indiana – Earlham College women's volleyball pushed its winning streak to six-straight matches with a pair of victories over Manchester University, Saturday afternoon at Stauffer-Wolfe Arena.
Earlham won the day first match, which counted in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference standings, 3-1 (25-22, 25-15, 23-25, 25-12). The Quakers completed the sweep with a 3-1 victory (26-28, 25-11, 25-21, 25-20) in the second match, which was a non-conference affair.
Match 1
The Quakers hit. 298 for the match with 51 kills, with setter
Erin Wagner charting 39 assists while running the Earlham offense.
Sarah Dickman led the squad with 16 kills on 39 swings and a .308 hitting percentage, while
Giselle Mora chipped in with 10 terminations.
Earlham finished with 6.0 total blocks, led by
Sydney Fuller with five. She also had eight kills and four service aces to finish with a match-high 17.0 points. Fuller's four aces were part of an Earlham tally of 10 aces, with Mora logging three aces and
Caroline Mulvihill recording two.
Defensively,
Jennifer Shamel sprawled for 18 digs, with Dickman turning up nine.
Manchester was held to a .146 hitting percentage for the match, with the Spartans nearly giving away a full set on its 22 attack errors. Halle Planck led the Spartans with 11 kills, with Samantha Campbell contributing seven kills and 5.0 total blocks.
Match 2
The day's second match was a virtual repeat of the first one, with Earlham hitting .230 over the four sets while holding Manchester to a .045 attack percentage.
Dickman (14 kills) and Mora (10 kills) again paced the Quakers with Dickman adding a pair of aces to finish with 16.0 points. Mulvihill tallied nine terminations and 3.0 total blocks for 11.5 points.
Wagner charted a 37 assists while running the Earlham offense. Defensively, five players finished with double-digit dig totals led by Shamel and Dickman with 15 apiece.
Joy Maze posted 11 kills for Manchester. Brielle Schultz finished with 4.0 total blocks to go with her three kills.
Earlham volleyball returns to action on Wednesday, Feb. 10, when the Quakers host Hanover College. Match one of the series will start at 6:00 p.m.
