Quakers begin season at Wooster Quad

WOOSTER, Ohio – The Earlham College track and field teams began the 2022 indoor season with the Wooster Quad meet on Saturday. 

Both teams ended with a fourth-place finish in total team points in the meet. 

The Quakers will hit the track again next weekend at Mount St. Joseph University in Cincinnati, Ohio. 

Here are some of the top performances of the day for the Quakers…

Sheldan Lindsay won the men's 60 meter dash after crossing the finish line in 7.11 seconds. The senior ran out of the third heat and recorded the first event win for the Quakers of the year. 

Blessed Shumba recorded a second-place finish in the men's long jump with a final mark of 5.81 meters. 

Michael Dallas finished on the podium in the men's weight throw. The senior recorded a throw of 13.15 meters to finish in second place. He was joined in the points by John Mahaney in sixth place. Dallas also scored in the shot put with a fourth-place finish and a mark of 10.75 meters. 

Drew Fitzgibbon earned a podium in the men's 400 meter dash with his time of 55.03. Olivia Kyrk finished the women's 400 in eighth place after running a time of 1:11.17 in the first heat. 

Alex Roberts finished the men's mile in second place with his time of 4:49.06. The Quakers also scored in the women's mile when Lily Schamel scored a fourth-place finish after running a time of 6:27.85. 

Madison Huelskamp scored a fourth-place finish in the women's long jump after posting a mark of 4.8 meters. Carley Edwards also scored points in the event with an eighth-place finish. 

Shianna Bellingham continued her momentum after earning all-conference in cross country with a fourth-place run in the 3,000 meter event. 

Ian Gorely and Alex Roberts finished in fifth and sixth place respectively in the men's 3,000 meter run. The pair was separated by just over a second on the scoresheet with Gorely recording a 9:37.67. 

Bailey Owens and Makaylah Castelow finished the women's weight throw in seventh and eighth places respectively, each throwing over seven meters. Castelow earned a second points finish in the shot put after her throw of 8.59 meters put her in sixth place.
