Baseball splits with MSJ

CINCINNATI, Ohio – The Earlham College baseball team split a doubleheader against Mount St. Joseph on Saturday afternoon in Cincinnati. 

The Quakers move to 18-14 on the season with an 8-8 mark in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference. 

GAME ONE: EARLHAM 3   MSJ 5

Dillon Fischer got the start at pitcher in game one of the series, and threw a complete eight innings. The junior scattered 10 hits with five earned runs and six strikeouts. 

Christian Lancianese led the Quakers at the plate with two hits for two RBI, including a double and a home run. Sean Jeffries had three hits and one RBI on the day, with two doubles and a triple. 

After Christian's home run on his first pitch of the game, both teams were held scoreless for three innings. 

The Lions got on the board in the bottom of the fourth with an RBI single to left field. The Quakers managed to end the inning on the play, getting the hitter out at second base. 

In the top of the fifth inning, Jeffries brought home Easton Embry on the triple to right center. Jeffries then came home on the next play with a double from Lancianese. 

In the bottom of the seventh inning, MSJ loaded the bases with one out. The Lions then got a run in on a ground ball, followed by a two-RBI single. 

GAME TWO: EARLHAM 6  MSJ 3

Nate Hemmerich earned the win in game two with four innings pitched. The grad student allowed four hits with no runs and three strikeouts. 

Nathan Lancianese had two RBI on two hits in game two. Christian Lancianese had one RBI.

The Lions scored two runs in the bottom of the first inning, and chased away the EC starter in less than an inning or work. 

Nathan Lancianese got the runs started for Ealrham with an RBI single in the top of the third inning. Later in the frame, Earlham plated a run due to a balk. MSJ retook the lead in the bottom of the third with a single down the right field line for an RBI.

The Quakers scored three runs from three hits and an error in the top of the seventh inning, and added an extra run in the top of the eighth. 

Earlham will be back in action tomorrow for Senior Day in Sadler Stadium against Rose-Hulman. Senior Day festivities are slated for 12:05 pm, and first pitch is set for 1 pm.
