CARMEL, Ind. – After the first game action in over 30 years, the Earlham College softball team placed two athletes as HCAC Players of the Week by the conference.

Bo Shelton earned Hitter of the Week honors after leading the Quakers at the plate with a .667 batting average. In her first collegiate plate appearance, Shelton sent a home run over the center-field fence. On the day, the Quaker shortstop recorded four hits with three RBI and a 1.167 slugging percentage. 

Morgan Cooksey earned Pitcher of the Week honors for her efforts in a 9-2 win over Olivet in game two. Cooksey recorded a complete game win with 15 strikeouts and only three hits surrendered. The freshman did not allow an earned run in her debut. At the plate, Cooksey went 2-for-3 with a double and a run scored. 

Earlham opened its season with a sweep of The University of Olivet on Saturday. The Quakers took game one by run-rule in the fifth inning with a score of 9-1, and Earlham won game two 9-2 in seven innings. 

The Quakers will continue play over spring break at THE Spring Games in Leesburg, Fla. The first game of the week is scheduled for 10:10 am on March 11 against Monmouth College.
