RICHMOND, Ind. – The Earlham College softball team will open its 2025 campaign with a doubleheader against Albion in Ellie Bewley Stadium on Saturday.
THE SCHEDULE
After a doubleheader against Albion, the Quakers set off for central Florida to take on THE Spring Games spring tournament. In Florida, Earlham will play eight games against nationwide competition, acting as a week-long opportunity to return to game action to begin the season. After spring break, Earlham will play a pair of doubleheaders at Centre and Wittenberg on March 18th and 22nd respectively, returning home on March 23rd for a doubleheader against Kenyon College. Earlham hosts Wilmington College on March 26th for the Quaker Bowl Rivalry Game at 3 pm in Ellie Bewley Stadium. Conference play begins on March 29th with Franklin College visiting Richmond for a 1 pm matchup, starting three straight weekends of home conference doubleheaders. The Quakers host Hanover on April 5th, and Anderson on April 12th for Senior Day. Midweek doubleheaders against Hope and Ohio Wesleyan break up the first three weeks of conference action. On Wednesday April 16th, the Quakers host Berea College at 3:30 pm in Ellie Bewley Stadium to begin the consistent HCAC slate of Wednesdays and Saturdays. Earlham has road trips to Rose Hulman and Manchester before hosting Bluffton College on April 26. The season ends with two road trips to Mount St. Joseph and Transylvania.
THE PLAYERS
Six Players were listed as "Athletes to Watch" by the HCAC this preseason.
Bo Shelton was named to the first team All-HCAC last year with an impressive freshman season. The shortstop slashed .383/.438/.570 with 17 extra-base hits and a team-high 19 RBI. Shelton went 4-5 on steals, and was the only Quaker hitter over 1.000 OPS on the year.
Morgan Cooksey earned a spot on the second team All-HCAC last year with over 140 innings pitched and 128 strikeouts. Cooksey earned 10 wins on the season with 16 complete games, two shutouts and two saves. Her 2.99 ERA was seventh in the conference last year.
Ashley Lewis played 31 games in the Quaker outfield last year with a .314 batting average. Lewis proved to be an effective leadoff, with a team-high 18 runs scored and a .389 on-base percentage.
Keely Hubbard started 30 games in various positions for the Quakers last year, posting a .766 OPS with five doubles and one homer with 17 RBI.
Tatum Rickert shared the pitching load last season, tossing 112 innings with five wins, 10 complete games, 97 strikeouts and a 4.24 ERA.
THE COACHES
The trio of
Stacey Goyette,
Maddie Moore and
Faith Muterspaugh remain for their second season together leading the Quakers. Last season, Earlham returned to action after over 30 years to finish with a 15-26 record.
HCAC OUTLOOK
Earlham was pegged to finish in fourth place in the HCAC preseason coaches poll. Earlham earned 50 votes in the poll, narrowly beating out Manchester with 49 votes in sixth place. The Quakers entered the HCAC tournament last season as the sixth seed, and knocked out Defiance College en route to a fourth-place finish.
