FORT PIERCE, Fla. – The Earlham College baseball team scored the 300th career win of head coach
Steve Sakosits' career with a 4-2 final score against Franciscan University on Thursday morning in Florida.
Cayman Huntsman tossed three scoreless innings to open on the mound. The junior allowed just three hits with two strikeouts.
Hayden Scalf earned the win with five innings pitched, five hits, no earned runs and six strikeouts.
Mitchell Roether led the Quakers at the plate, going 2-3 with two RBI.
Max Firestine tallied two hits with one RBI.
Noah Wagster and
Jonathan Jimenez both tallied two stolen bases.
Ian Bullis earned a two-out walk in the top of the fourth inning, and scored on a single by Firestine.
The Barons scored an unearned run in the bottom of the fourth inning, before the Quakers came back with two runs on three hits in the top of the fifth.
Roether hit a sacrifice fly for the final Quaker run in the top of the seventh inning after a leadoff walk by Jimenez.
Franciscan scored its final run of the game in the bottom of the seventh.
Earlham is scheduled to return home to host Wabash College on Tuesday. First pitch is scheduled for 6 pm.
