BARTOW, Fla. – The Earlham College softball team dropped a morning matchup to Husson before scoring a walk-off win against Saint Joseph's on Thursday afternoon on Spring Break.
GAME ONE: EARLHAM 3 HUSSON 5
Kamdyn DePew started game one in the circle, and tossed one inning with two earned runs on two hits.
Morgan Cooksey then threw five innings with only one hit allowed and three strikeouts.
Bo Shelton went 2-4 with a double and a run scored.
Ashley Lewis scored three hits, and
Emmerie Stump tallied two hits.
Husson scored four runs on two hits and two errors in the bottom of the first inning. The Eagles then scored one run in the bottom of the second inning before being held scoreless through the final four frames.
Trailing 5-0,
Macie Ferguson pulled a ball past the first baseman for a triple to lead off the top of the fifth inning. The Quakers then went down in order to end the inning.
Shelton led off the sixth inning with a ground rule double to center field, and scored on a single by
Shelby Hill. Lewis then hit an RBI single to center field to bring
Mack Harvey home. With two outs and two runners on base,
Jade Green singled to right field for the final Quaker run of the game.
GAME TWO: EARLHAM 7 SAINT THOMAS 6
Tatum Rickert threw 3.2 innings with two earned runs on six hits. The junior was pulled in the top of the fourth inning after she was hit by a batted ball.
Shelby Messer earned the win with 3.1 innings pitched, and no runs on two hits.
Mikala Newland went 2-2 with two steals and two runs scored.
Faith Butler had two hits with a double and a run scored.
Michaela King also went 2-2 with two RBI.
After two straight errors to open the game, the Monks scored four runs on two hits in the top of the first inning.
Newland earned a leadoff walk in the bottom of the first, and after advancing on a hit by
Malaya Tanglao, scored on a hit by King down the left field line.
King tallied a leadoff walk in the bottom of the third inning before a two-run home run by Shelton to center field. Butler hit a double, and scored on a sacrifice fly by
Ariel Clarkston.
Tied 4-4, Saint Joseph's scored two runs on two hits in the fourth inning. Newland led off the bottom of the fourth with a single, and stole third before scoring on a sacrifice fly by King.
Trailing 6-5 in the bottom of the seventh, Green kicked off the Quaker rally with a four-pitch walk and stole second base. Three walks loaded the bases with one out, and
Emmerie Stump hit an infield ball to the first baseman that scored the tying run with one out. Tanglao then scored a walk-off sacrifice fly with a deep ball to right field.
Earlham is set to take on Penn State Behrend and Mount Union tomorrow afternoon to conclude Spring Break action.
