Softball sweeps Olivet on Saturday

RICHMOND, Ind. – The Earlham College softball team swept the University of Olivet on Saturday afternoon in Darrell Beane Stadium. 

GAME ONE: EARLHAM 7 OLIVET 0

Tatum Rickert threw a complete game shutout in game one with one hit and five strikeouts. 

Mack Harvey went 3-4 with a double, an RBI, one steal and two runs scored. Bo Shelton scored two hits with a double, a steal and one RBI. 

After a scoreless opening three innings, Earlham scored four runs on four hits in the bottom of the fourth inning. Harvey reached as the first runner with a two-out single, and scored after a single up the middle by Cierra James. Tiffany Sowder hit a two-run single with the bases loaded and Jade Green put a ball in play to score the final run of the inning. 

Shelton hit a one-out single in the bottom of the fifth inning, and stole second base before scoring on a double by Harvey. Shelby Hill then knocked a double down the left field line to score Harvey for a 6-0 Quaker lead. 

Stump and Shelton hit back-to-back doubles in the bottom of the sixth inning for the final Quaker run of the game. 

GAME TWO: EARLHAM 11 OLIVET 7

Morgan Cooksey earned the win in game two after throwing 2.2 innings with two earned runs on three hits with two strikeouts. Shelby Messer tossed the opening three innings with no earned runs on one hit with four strikeouts. 

Hill went 3-4 in game two with a home run, a double, three RBI and two runs scored. Stump was 2-2 at the plate with two RBI and a double. Ashley Lewis also had a multi-hit game with a steal, two RBI and two runs scored. 

Hill led off the scoring with a solo homer in the bottom of the second inning. Olivet then scored two runs on one hit and two errors in the top of the third inning. 

The Quakers responded with five runs off four hits in the bottom of the third. Ariel Clarkston led off the inning with a double in the left-center gap. With runners on second and third, Lewis singled to center field for two runs, and advanced to third on the throw from the outfield. Lewis then scored on a bunt by Shelton, and Drew Tubesing hit a blooper to the right field line to bring in another run. The Quakers executed a double steal for Tubesing to come home as the final run of the inning. 

Olivet scored five runs on two hits and an error in the top of the fifth inning. 

Clarkston led off the bottom of the sixth inning with an infield single, and Macie Ferguson tied the game with an RBI-single to left field. Lewis found a gap in the outfield, and Hill hit a ball off the outfield wall for a two-run double to take the lead. Stump added the final runs of the day with a two-run double to right field. 

Earlham will travel to Wilmington College for the Quaker Bowl Rivalry Series on Tuesday with a doubleheader starting at 3 pm.
