RICHMOND, Ind. — In a battle of regionally-ranked teams on Matlack Field, the Earlham College women's soccer team posted a 1-0 victory over Transylvania University on Tuesday afternoon.
"We had a great result against a very skilled team," Earlham Head Coach Jocelyn Keller said. "Transy is fast, fit and skilled. They are a great team and very dangerous on the attack."
As a result of the win, the Quakers (9-3-1) reached the top of the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference standings by themselves at 4-0, while Transylvania (9-3-1) falls to 3-1 and into third place. Hanover College is the only other unbeaten team in conference play at 3-0. The second-place Panthers face the College of Mount St. Joseph on Wednesday.
In the Great Lakes Regional rankings released by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America on Tuesday, the Quakers were in a tie at No. 10 with the College of Wooster and DePauw University. Transylvania, last year's HCAC Tournament champion, was at No. 5.
The win also gives the Quakers their sixth consecutive victory, which ties the Earlham record for wins in a row established in 2008.
Earlham's

"We were able to capitalize on our opportunities and played to win," Keller said. "Our center-midfielders did a wonderful job of keeping possession as well as keeping us composed."
For Doucette, it was her seventh goal of the season and with her seven assists, she is Earlham's second-leading scorer at 21 points. Duchon leads the way for the Quakers with 12 goals and three assists for 27 points.
