RICHMOND, Ind. — The high-powered offense of the Earlham College women's soccer team was in gear on Saturday afternoon as the Quakers claimed a 6-0 victory over Manchester College.
The Homecoming and Senior Day victory keeps Earlham (11-4-1, 6-1) in a first-place tie in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference with Transylvania University (12-3-1, 6-1) and the College of Mount St. Joseph (7-7-2, 6-1). Perhaps more importantly, the Quakers have clinched at least fourth place in the HCAC and therefore have qualified for the post-season tournament.
On Saturday, the Quakers had three goals in the first half of the HCAC match and added three more in the second as they won for the eighth time in the last nine contests.
Joy Doucette (Berwyn Heights, MD, Eleanor Roosevelt) got the scoring started with an unassisted goal at 11:58.
Paige Thomas (Bel Air, MD, Baltimore Friends School) made it 2-0 at the 15:05 mark with
Karman Duchon (Decatur, GA, Decatur) and Kelly Sprague assisting on the play.
Moments later,
Allie Zeller (Cincinnati, OH, Amelia) picked up a goal at 16:34 with Doucette getting the assist as the Quakers built a 3-0 advantage by intermission.
The scoring started quickly in the second half as Duchon found the net at 45:17 with
Rachel Dana (Columbus, IN, North) assisting.
Doucette added her second goal of the contest at 48:38 with an assist from Duchon.
Dana had the final score of the match at 84:31 as Duchon picked up her third assist in the contest.
Earlham led 28-5 in a shots and 11-0 in corner kicks. Goalkeeper
Megan Holthaus (Harrison, OH, McAuley) finished with three saves for the Quakers.
The Quakers play their final regular season home match on Tuesday as the Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology visits Matlack Field. The HCAC match begins at 4 p.m.
