Volleyball hits .274 in three-set win

BLUFFTON, Ohio – The Earlham College volleyball team took a straight-set win at Bluffton University on Wednesday evening in HCAC action. 

Anniyah Harrington hit 11 kills with a .290 hitting percentage and one assisted block. Skyler Murray hit .412 with eight kills and one block. 

Ava Walters and Sydney Bleyle recorded 20 and 19 assists respectively. Walters also had two aces and one kill. Madison Bizjak led the back line with 16 digs. 

As a team, Earlham hit .274 with 44 kills and just 12 errors. The Quakers also put up seven blocks and three aces. 

Trailing 11-4 in the first set, Earlham put together a 15-5 run, and took a 19-16 lead. Earlham scored eight kills and one ace in the run. Bluffton scored three straight to tie the set at 21, but the Quakers then went on a 4-2 run with three kills to close the set.

In set two, neither team scored a run of more than three points, and the lead was never more than three points. Earlham scored 13 kills and just three errors in the frame, for a .25 attack percentage. Tied at 23, Jasmyn Meeker scored a kill to put the Quakers at set point, the Beavers then lost the frame on an attack error. 

Bluffton had a good start again in set three, taking an 8-2 lead. Earlham strung together three runs of 3+ points to take an 18-17 lead over the Beavers. Bluffton tied the set at 20, but the Quakers then went on a 5-0 run to close out the match. 

Earlham will be back in action on Saturday at Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology for HCAC competition. First serve is scheduled for 1 pm. At 2-2, the Quakers sit in sixth place in the HCAC standings, with Rose-Hulman in eighth place at 1-3 in conference play.
