Andy White was a cross country and track athlete at Earlham from 1991-96. Most of his success was in cross country. After taking a year away from school, White became Earlham’s first runner to qualify and compete in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Men’s Div. III Cross County Championships in 1995.
He was All-North Coast Athletic Conference First Team in 1992, 1993 and 1995 and All-Regional in 1995. White was selected as Earlham’s Most Outstanding Runner in 1992, 1993, 1995 and Most Outstanding First-Year in 1991.
As a senior, White was a member of the 1995 NCAC Championship Team, which is also being inducted into the Athletics Hall of Fame in 2007. He also received the George Van Dyke Outstanding Athlete Award in 1996.
In track, White still holds the Earlham records in the 1,500 meters and 5,000 meters. He set the 1,500-meter mark of 4:01.92 in 1996. He established the 5,000-meter standard of 15:11.17 in 1993.
White’s father, Nat, was a member of the 1963 men’s cross county team that was inducted into the Earlham Athletics Hall of Fame in 1996 making the duo the second father-son to receive the honor.
