Charles Matlack began his coaching career at Earlham in 1954. He guided the Earlham soccer program for 25 years. During those years his teams accumulated a 169-102-21 win-loss record and 18 winning seasons. He coached six conference, two state and seven district championship teams. In 1965, his Quakers were the National Association for Intercollegiate Athletics National Runner-Up. Two years prior to this accomplishment Matlack’s team were the NAIA National Co-champions. Charlie has served as an administrator for numerous state and national soccer associations. In 1976, he was given the distinguished honor of being inducted into the NAIA Hall of Fame.
