John Mutchner was a member of the basketball and baseball teams at Earlham. In 1955, he garnered all-Hoosier College Conference and Quaker most valuable player honors as a member of the Quakers’ best conference championship baseball team. After receiving his bachelor’s degree from Earlham, the Lynn, Ind., native earned a master’s degree from Indiana University. Mutchner began his career as an athletic director and basketball coach at Parker (IN) High School and Lindsey Wilson (KY) College. For 25 years, he served as athletic director and men’s basketball coach at Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology. His overall basketball coaching record was 388-319 with six conference championships and five NCAA tournament bids. At the time of induction he was president of J.T. Mutchner, Inc., a land development and construction firm. Mutchner was active in Earlham’s decision to proceed with the Athletics & Wellness Program and Center. He resides with his wife Norma in Terre Haute, Ind.
