Landrum Bolling, who served as Earlham’s president from 1958-73, is receiving Special Recognition from the Earlham College Athletics Hall of Fame.

Nearly a third of all of the individuals inducted into the Earlham Athletics Hall of Fame since its inception in 1991 enjoyed success during Bolling’s tenure.

  • During the same time, seven Hall of Fame squads were among the most successful in school history and his support was instrumental to the development of the entire department.
  • The 1962 football team coached by Jerry Huntsman was the first undefeated squad in that sport at Earlham.
  • The men’s soccer team earned a co-national championship in 1963 and two years later the Quakers were national runner-up.
  • Earlham also won a NAIA national title in men’s volleyball in 1969.
  • Hall of Fame member Jerry Rushton coached the 1963 men’s cross country squad to the NAIA National Championship meet.
  • Another Hall of Fame coach, Del Harris, led Earlham squads and reached the NAIA Tournament several times and won a NAIA District 21 title in 1971.

Bolling, president emeritus of Earlham, is also a Honorary Lifetime Trustee of Earlham.
