In his junior year, lineman George Oberle was named Earlham football’s Most Valuable Player, and the following season he was selected to the All-Hoosier Conference team. After graduation, Oberle remained at Earlham for three years as a physical education instructor, intramural director and head baseball coach, among other jobs. He returned to Earlham in 1958 to serve two years as assistant professor of health, physical education and recreation; director of athletics; and head football coach. After earning a doctorate in physical education in 1969 from Indiana State University, he eventually joined the faculty at Oklahoma State University.
