A four-year letter winner in football, Bill Phillips was one of the leading scorers in Indiana College football. His senior year, he was recognized for his athletic prowess in his ability to play both ways every game. He was named the captain and most valuable player and was later selected to honor Earlham College at an Indiana College Football Team Banquet in Indianapolis. In addition to football, Phillips was also a four-year letter winner in track. The College recognized Phillips as the most outstanding male athlete when he won the George Van Dyke Award his junior and senior years. Upon graduation, he returned to Earlham for a time as resident manager and later housing. He has severed as the Assistant Vice Chancellor, Student Auxiliary Services at the University of Missouri.
