Along with winning several all-star awards, Robbins was captain of a team that gained national attention when it placed second in the National Collegiate Double Elimination Tournament, losing to UCLA.  With all the national attention, Robbins was named an All American in 1951 and 1952 and named All Midwest in 1951.
