A two-sport, four-year letterman, Stephen Ronald participated in both football and baseball at Earlham. While playing football, he played 90% of his games as a defensive left end and shared both infield and outfield positions in baseball. Ronald witnessed an era of Quaker football that went from one win while he was a freshman to one defeat in his final two years. As a senior, Ronald was captain of a team that finished 8-0. In 1962, he was named to the second-team NAIA All-American team. In his junior year of baseball, he held a team leading .325 batting average.
