Barbara Schnell Anderson earned the Comstock Trophy and Earlham College Girl of the Year award. A three-year member of the Earlham field hockey squad, she had the honor of playing for the Great Lakes first team in two national tournaments — an unusual achievement for a college player. Her life took a different direction starting with foreign study in Switzerland and France. She led an active life as a social worker and volunteer in Pennsylvania, Texas, England and the Philippines. Anderson returned to field hockey 23 years later as the varsity and junior varsity field hockey coach at LaPlata (MD) High School. From 1985-92, she doubled player participations and complied a 71-32-5 overall record. Her teams won four championships and appeared twice in state semi-final contests. At the time of induction she lived in LaPlata and served as the adult service case manager for the Charles County Department of Social Services in LaPlata.
